Corpse Flower | Cairns Botanical Gardens
A Corpse Flower Cairns Botanic Gardens show off the rare Titan Arum, like the one that bloomed in Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in Adelaide, attracting 100's creating long queues of visitors. The famously brief bloom only lasts just 24 hours.
The rainforest flower, listed as endangered, is on the verge of unfurling at Cairns Botanic Gardens.
While the fragrance can be foul and smelling like something dead 'hence' name of corpse, the very large bloom is truly amazing to see up close! The unpleasant odour serves an important purpose " It attracts carrion-eating beetle sand flies that pollinate the plant"
The Corpse Flower | The Cairns Botanic Garden can be found on Collins Ave, Edge Hill
