A must do whilst staying in Cairns is a scenic day trip to Kuranda. This quaint village is nestled in mountaintop rainforest splendour just to the west of Cairns.
Kuranda is accessible by three means: train, cableway or road. But the best method of getting there is by travelling on the historic railway in an old train and returning by the spectacular Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, or vice-versa.
After boarding the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for your journey to Kuranda, you will be amazed as you travel over and through World Heritage rainforest, enjoying two stops along the way. The train is equally as entertaining as it winds over bridges and through tunnels on this historic journey.
Once you arrive in Kuranda you have plenty of time to explore this quaint village. From the traditional appeal of the famous Kuranda Markets to the excellent cafes and restaurants, Kuranda has something to suit everybody.
Kuranda also boasts the beautiful Australian Butterfly Sanctuary and Birdworld or you will be smitten by the koalas in Koala Gardens. Spend your time meandering through local art galleries and Aboriginal artefacts and sample a locally made tropical fruit ice cream.
Once you’ve had your fill of Kuranda village either return back to Smithfield Station on the Skyrail or into Cairns Station aboard the historic train.
Skyrail operates a regular coach transfer pick-up and drop-off service in the Cairns to Smithfield Station and return.
