Waterfall Circuit | Self Drive | South of Cairns
We often get asked “What can we do for free around Cairns?” There are plenty of options. Free is often just sightseeing on foot, but hiring a car is not free. However it is the freedom to go and see what you want at your own time.
The Waterfall Circuit | Self Drive | South of Cairns is a great option and one we recommend regularly. The drive time is around 3 hours, plus the time you wish to take walking, sightseeing, having lunch or picnic etc. The waterfall circuit is a scenic journey through to the Atherton Tablelands, a food bowl for Far North Queensland! You will find some very picturesque scenery, breathtaking views and lots and lots of fresh clean air!
Take a look below to see our recommended itinerary:
Travel south of Cairns to commence an entire day out travelling through the World Heritage Listed tropical rainforests of Wooroonooran National park, swimming under waterfalls, experiencing the Millaa Millaa Falls, Lake Barine ( volcanic lake), giant Fig trees and more.
After departing Cairns, head to Yungaburra via the Gillies Highway and make your way to Malanda via the Lake Eacham National Park. Head down to Millaa Millaa and circle the waterfall loop taking in Millaa Millaa Falls, Zillie Falls and Ellinjaa Falls. Drive towards Innisfail on the East Palmerston Highway, then join the Bruce Highway heading home towards Cairns.
